About Us
Bassmati School is a community-rooted school in Sana’a, Yemen, founded to reimagine what education can look like in a context shaped by challenges.
We move beyond rote memorisation to create meaningful, student-centred learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Our approach combines strong academic foundations with wellbeing, real-world learning, and character development - ensuring that students grow not only in knowledge, but in confidence, agency, and purpose.
At Bassmati, classrooms extend beyond walls and students’ voices actively shape their environment. Students are prepared not only for exams, but for active citizenship - equipping them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.

Mission
Our mission is to educate active citizens who contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.
At Bassmati, we move beyond memorisation to nurture critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication, and citizenship through active, student-centred learning. Rooted in our community and connected to real-world experiences, we empower students to take ownership of their learning and grow into confident individuals with a strong sense of responsibility and purpose.

Vision
Our vision is to contribute to a new model of education in Yemen - one that is student-centred, community-rooted, and future-focused.
We aim to demonstrate what is possible when education prioritises critical thinking, wellbeing, and active citizenship, and to inspire broader change by sharing practices that can be adapted across schools and communities.
Our 5Cs Framework
At Bassmati, our approach to learning is guided by five core competencies that are embedded across all subjects and experiences:
Critical Thinking
Students learn to question, analyse, and reflect - developing the ability to think independently and solve complex problems.
Creativity
Students are encouraged to explore ideas, experiment, and express themselves in original ways.
Collaboration
Learning is social. Students work together, share perspectives, and build solutions as a team.
Communication
Students develop confidence in expressing their ideas clearly, through speaking, writing, and creative media.
Citizenship
Students engage with their community and the wider world, developing a sense of responsibility, empathy, and active participation.
